HUMP DAY MUSIC!
Curated and written by Alejandra of Teros Magazine + Gallery!
Let's dive in & see what Alejandra picked this week...
After receiving the results of this nerve-racking election, I went home and put on the album "Afreaka!" by the afro-rock group Demon Fuzz. This record has relieved my anxiety many a time. Formulated in 1968 of 7 young musicians who emigrated to London, there distinct sound has never been replicated. A strange brew of ska, jazz, and soul with the addition of hard rock. Saxophonist, Paddy Corea, created the band after an inspiring trip to Morocco. This album is a reaction to war, segregation and the everyday struggle in London. I can see the parallel's of what we face today in this time of fear and confusion. How can we live in a society, controlled by leaders who step on others and destroy our sacred land?
Their lyrics are not available within the internet realm. Listening closely to the record, I tried my best to accurately record them for you here. This song is titled "Another Country". Let's just assume many of us can relate.
"If I could lose all my troubles - by running away no, no I wouldn't stay - no I wouldn't - they just keep on hanging around me - and won't go away - no no won't go away - just ain't fair - no no no just ain't fair - this whole year has been a blunder - yes I lost my sense of wonder - there are no sweet warm lovers to turn to - and no one to call our brothers - on every street in the city - and you are afraid yes so afraid - you can see by the surface of friends that I made that drive you insane - everywhere theres danger - you won't even want find yourself a place to hide - you been hurt so many times - you lose your love of nursery rhymes - get the safest room you can find - lock the door find yourself another country - if I could lose all my troubles - by running away no no I wouldn't stay - no I wouldn't - they just keep on hanging around me - and won't go away - no no won't go away - just aint fair - no no no just ain't fair - this whole year has been a blunder - yes I lost my sense of wonder - there are no sweet warm lovers to turn to "
Our country has dilussioned some of us and we want to hide, but now is our time to fight back.
I encourage you to isten to this album in its entirety.
